I want to first advise you and a full disclaimer that I am not part of the Beyhive and only know a few of Beyonce’s songs. I am however moved by her continued commitment and support for various non-profits and causes. I had never heard of Coachella before last weekend so when I kept seeing it pop up on my Twitter feed I thought I would follow along and see what all of the excitement was about.
Beyonce’ obviously did not disappoint in her performance and stage presence for the show and made history as the first African American woman to headline the event. I could not keep up with her maneuvering of the five changes in costumes but was very impressed with what her presence represented. If you look closely and saw the performance with her sister Solange and the band on the risers you would be immediately taken back to your college days.
I was likewise impressed by her commitment again to expanding the scholarship program designated for four Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Xavier University, Wilberforce University, Tuskegee University and Bethune-Cookman University, which will receive $25,000 each for the 2018-2019 academic year. To receive an award from the Homecoming Scholars Awards Program applicants are required to have at least a 3.5 GPA. Each university selects its own finalists and winners, and each winner will be revealed this summer.
Whether you are or are not a Beyonce’ fan or part of the Beyhive her philanthropy work and activism is inspiring. Whether it’s for hurricane disaster relief in Texas, criminal justice reform, scholarships, along with her direct involvement in her community, across the US and the world, she is making and having a positive impact on the lives of many.
All the best until next time!
